Route: Wharram Percy
Area: North Yorkshire
Date of walk: 1st November 2013
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 11.6 miles
Ascent: 700 feet
We parked by the red phone box in the attractive village of North Grimston, having made an early start as rain was forecast for the afternoon
We immediately joined the Centenary Way, a long distance walk from York to Filey. The first half of the walk was in sunshine, but as we approached Birdsall it clouded over, and started to rain as we climbed up Birdsall Brow to the top of the Wolds
The rain spoilt what otherwise would have been fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. By the time we arrived in the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy it was raining heavily – no wonder it was deserted
We returned to North Grimston via a quiet country lane having enjoyed our walk, even though the rain had put a dampener on the latter part of it
