Route: Val Roseg
Area: Eastern Swiss Alps
Date of walk: 21st January 2015
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 5.7 miles
Weather: Mostly cloudy, a few bright spells, some light snow
The day before the walk we’d booked a horse drawn sleigh from Wohli’s to take us along Val Roseg, and we planned to walk back along the valley, which is downhill all the way
We walked from our hotel to the departure point near the main railway station in Pontresina, and just as arranged our sleigh arrived. Our driver Conrad draped us with thick blankets (which were needed, as it was below freezing) and off we went
It was a magical journey along the valley as far as the small settlement of Roseg, where we had refreshments at the Hotel Roseg Gletscher before setting off on the hiking trail back down the valley. It was very easy walking and all too soon we were back at the start – it’s not often that a destination is reached with a tinge of regret
We’d been this way before last September, and this was another special day out in this beautiful valley
