Route: Hull Marina and The Deep
Area: City of Hull
Date of walk: 9th February 2015
Walkers: Andrew Gilly and Phoebe
Distance: 2.0 miles
Weather: sunny
We started our walk from the Marina near the city centre. The weather was exceptional and it could have been St Tropez – I exaggerate, but not a lot
We crossed the bridge over the lock and walked over to Victoria Pier, where we had our first glimpse of The Deep – one of the most spectacular aquaria in the world, both inside and out
We were in no rush to enter, as the River Humber was looking beautiful. I’ve rarely seen it so calm. We walked along the river bank for a short distance before retracing our steps and entering The Deep. Our granddaughter Phoebe let out a squeal of delight when she realised that we were back in one of her favourite places
The penguins weren’t on show today due to essential maintenance of their enclosure, but we were aware of that before our visit, and there’s so much else to see that this didn’t matter at all. Phoebe was entranced as usual
To cap it all, there was a beautiful sunset as we returned via Victoria Pier back to the start
