Route: Tarn Crag (Grasmere)
Area: Central Lake District
Date of walk: 25th July 2013
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 8.5 miles
Ascent: 1,900 feet
We parked in the middle of Grasmere and walked out of the village along Easedale Road, opposite Sam Read’s bookshop. In order to avoid a party of schoolchildren, presumably heading for Easedale Tarn, we reversed the intended direction of our route and headed up along the right hand side of Easedale – a good decision, as we didn’t see anyone else along the ascent route
It was an easy climb up to the top, the only difficulty being the humidity and a couple of showers. There were good views back to Grasmere and over to Windermere
We then descended to Codale Tarn, a lovely quiet spot, where Bonnie enjoyed a cooling swim. The path continued down and we passed by Easedale Tarn before making our way back to Grasmere
Back in the village, we treated ourselves to a guilt free English Lakes ice cream and some gingerbread from Sarah Nelson’s, as a reward for our efforts
