Route: Pontresina to St Moritz
Area: Eastern Swiss Alps
Date of walk: 29th June 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 6.7 miles
Weather: drizzle and rain, cloud over most of the peaks. Surprise weather event later!….
The poor weather and even poorer forecast meant that we had to plan a low level walk, so we decided to walk to St Moritz in the next valley. As we left our hotel it was spitting with rain, but the rain became heavier as the walk progressed. We couldn’t possibly have foreseen the freak weather conditions after we finished our walk – see the final photos
We walked along superbly maintained and waymarked paths through the pine forest until we arrived at Lej da Stax, a small lake situated in an idyllic situation
From there we made our way along more forest tracks to St Moritz-Bad, then alongside the lake of St Moritz into the town itself. We wandered around the pedestrian section for a while, and then caught the bus back to the start
The walk was beautiful throughout and we thoroughly enjoyed it despite the conditions, though it was a shame that the surrounding peaks were all out of sight today. I couldn’t take many photos on account of the incessant rain
