Route: Sledmere
Area: East and North Yorkshire
Date of walk: 6th August 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 12.2 miles
Ascent: 900 feet
My walk started in the village of Sledmere, and I followed the quiet lane for about 2 miles as far as Kirby Grindalythe, crossing the boundary from East Yorkshire to North Yorkshire as I did so. There were long views over the rolling Wolds countryside
I then followed a path through fields to the quiet village of West Lutton, and then back over farmland to Sledmere
Before returning to the car, I decided to explore the grounds of Sledmere House, home to the Sykes family for generations. This added another two miles or so to the walk, but it was a pleasure walking round the beautiful estate, home to a herd of 200 or so red deer
My only regret was not having more time to explore the house and gardens, but that can be rectified another day. What a wonderful place!
