Route: Muottas Muragl and the Segantini Hut
Area: Eastern Swiss Alps
Date of walk: 15th September 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 4.7 miles
Weather: sunny
Another glorious day dawned and we decided to revisit the Muottas Muragl, where we’d first walked in the Swiss Alps earlier this year, but we planned to vary our original walk by taking an alternative higher altitude path
We caught the bus from outside our hotel and made the short journey to Punt Muragl. The funicular was about to set off so we jumped in the carriage and were whisked up to a height of 8,057 feet in no time at all
After admiring the spectacular views from the station we set off along an easy track, forking off after a short distance to take the high level route to the Segantini Hut. Climbing at this height is quite energy sapping and we were glad to reach the hut and have some refreshments while enjoying the amazing views
We then traversed the mountain side, descending gradually, along a sometimes narrow and slightly exposed path. Chains were provided in places but the going was perfectly safe. We finally reached Alp Languard where we had lunch, before taking the chairlift back down into Pontresina
