Scampston Hall is home to two wonderful and completely different gardens – the unique contemporary Walled Garden designed by Piet Oudolf, which opened in 2005, and The Park designed by Capability Brown in 1782. We bought tickets to visit both and first went into the Walled Garden, which is set within the 18C walls of the original kitchen garden. Click here for more information about this stunning space, with a link to a plan of the garden
We then made our way to the parkland and set out on the Cascade Walk, which leads to various points of interest in the surrounding parkland. I’ve not included a maps page as a garden guide is handed out at the entrance which contains a plan and other information
It was a stunningly beautiful short walk. Thanks to various commitments we didn’t arrive at Scampston until 3pm and since the garden closes at 5pm our visit was more hurried than we’d have preferred. A full half day or more is needed to properly appreciate all that’s on offer
