Route: Robin Hood’s Bay

We parked in the public car park above Robin Hood’s Bay and in order to save the best until last we didn’t walk down to the village, but instead walked along a country lane heading north away from it. We then left the lane to follow a succession of paths (some of them exceptionally muddy) until we reached the road near High Hawkser
We turned right here to follow a track towards the coast which took us through a static caravan park where we refuelled at the excellent Coast Cafe Bar
Suitably refreshed we carried on towards the North Sea and it was a great moment when we arrived at the cliff top to join the Cleveland Way. This brought back happy memories of the climax of our Coast to Coast Walk some 15 years ago
We followed the cliff top path back to Robin Hood’s Bay, and then strolled round the village for a while before climbing back up to the car park to end a wonderful walk

Navigation is a simple affair on the return leg of the walk
The land on the left looks like a distant cliff, but it’s a nearby overhang - just a few yards away - and a good example of the erosion taking place here
We continue to follow the Cleveland Way
Looking back…
…and forward, the views are wonderful both ways
Just beyond Bay Ness the path has fallen into the sea and there’s a short diversion through a field

The outskirts of the village
The car park is behind us, but it would be unthinkable to omit a walk round Robin Hood’s Bay and its narrow streets and alleyways….
15 years ago we’d picked up 2 pebbles from the beach at St Bees on the west coast, and a few days later we’d placed them on the beach here at the end of a long walk…
