Route: Ravenglass
Area: South Western Lake District
Date of walk: 6th May 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 6.0 miles
Weather: sunny
We parked in the car park outside Muncaster Castle and joined a path just inside the castle gates which passes through woodland to the small settlement of Ravenglass – the only coastal town within the National Park, and where the Lake District meets the sea
We joined the Cumbria Coastal Way which took us along the estuary and then along the bank of the River Esk. The views were spectacular, improved by some long awaited sun and blue skies – which hadn’t been forecast and so came as a welcome surprise
Eventually the path headed away from the Esk and into the grounds of Muncaster Castle. There was so much interest at the castle that I’ve treated this as a separate walk, so to see how the rest of this fantastic day was spent – click here
