Route: Rannerdale Knotts
Area: North Western Lake District
Date of walk: 27th November 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 3.0 miles
Ascent: 800 feet
The cloud was down low and I abandoned all thoughts of a high level walk. I had a couple of walks in mind in the Borrowdale area, but as I drove past Rannerdale Knotts the fell seemed to be clear on top so I made a spur of the moment decision to park at its foot and climb to the top
As it turned out, I backed the wrong horse – the clouds were getting lower and moving quite quickly so that by the time I arrived at the summit there were no views at all. This was a real shame since Buttermere, Crummock Water and the surrounding fells are well seen from here
I walked through the mist along the summit ridge to the southern end and returned along Rannerdale valley, a very easy descent
I’m afraid that the photos below reflect the overcast and dull weather
