Route: Raincliffe Woods
Area: North York Moors
Date of walk: 7th October 2013
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 5.6 miles
Ascent: 500 feet
We parked in the public car park on Low Road, and walked along Mowthorpe Road for a short distance, before joining a farm track. We then left the track to enter Raincliffe Woods, which is designated as Ancient replanted woodland
We walked through the woodland as far as Throxelby Mere, then climbed steeply uphill to walk back along the edge of the woods, with Seamer Moor on our left
The woods are owned by Scarborough Council but are maintained by the Friends of Raincliffe Woods, who do an excellent job not only in restoration and conservation, but also in promoting the area, marking out nature trails and arranging guided walks
It’s a wonderful place and well worth a visit
