Route: Port de Soller
Area: North West Mallorca
Date of walk: 10th September 2015
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 11.0 miles
Weather: Overcast and dull, light rain
I set off from our rented villa in Sóller but in trying to make a shortcut to the start of the walk came to a dead end in an industrial estate on the outskirts, resulting in some industrial language. Having wasted about 30 minutes I walked back to the Repsol garage on the MA-11 and was finally on my way
I climbed up the path and was soon looking back over the town. About half way to the Port de Soller there was a road section, but thankfully it was a fairly quiet road from which there were good sea views
The next section was superb, along a stony path through groves of ancient olive trees, with wonderful views of the port below. Having reached the port I walked round the seafront and joined the path we’d used on our first walk of this holiday, this time following it in the opposite direction back into Sóller
There had been spots of rain throughout most of the morning, but as I neared Sóller the rain became heavier and it was a wet end to the walk, which was a really enjoyable one despite the poor weather

Dawn - looking to Puig Major from the balcony of our rented villa. It proved to be a false dawn as the weather was dull and overcast, with rain later on
The path starts from near the Repsol garage, bottom right. St Bartholomew Church is beyond
Climbing out of Sóller up an attractive stone staircase
Port de Sóller and its watchtower come into view
I’d noticed several signs like this during my walks, and suspect this is a tactic used by landowners to keep walkers to the path
Olive and fruit trees
Puig Major again
Tramuntana mountains
Part of the walk is along the GR 221, a long distance path between Port d’Andratx and Pollença
This involves a road section, but it’s a quiet road, with attractive views along the way…
Near Sa Roqueta I turn off the road to follow a track - Puig Major again in the distance
The large farm of Muleta Gran
There are some wonderful ancient olive trees in the farmland
Approaching Port de Sóller
Port de Sóller below
This enterprising orange grower was selling freshly squeezed juice to passing walkers - delicious
Walking towards the harbour
The old and new lighthouses at the mouth of the harbour
A deserted beach thanks to the indifferent weather
I was tempted to take the old tram back to Sóller, but decided to complete the round
Last view of the harbour before I head inland
Start of the path back to Sóller
Top of the pass before I descend to Sóller
Ca’n Tamany on the outskirts of Sóller - I had to put the camera away here as the rain became heavier, but it was an enjoyable walk nevertheless
