Route: Pocklington Canal
Area: East Yorkshire
Date of walk: 23rd February 2014
Walkers: Andrew and James
Distance: 6.0 miles
Ascent: nil
The day before, I’d been told that the cause of my stiff and sometimes aching right knee is osteoarthritis. Bad news, but where there’s a will there’s a way and it’s not going to get between me and a good walk
We decided to visit Pocklington Canal having read about the wildlife that’s to be found along its banks. We parked at the Canal Head and followed the canal side, part of the Wilberforce Way
After reaching a bend in the canal, we headed inland for a short distance, returning to the canal side and then retracing our steps
The countryside is very flat and so was the weather, making the conditions for photography very poor. Furthermore there were high winds, which meant that much of the advertised birdlife was nowhere to be seen. Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable walk, and promised ourselves that we’d return later in the year in better conditions
