Route: Crummock Water from Park Bridge
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 7th February 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 1.6 miles
Ascent: 100 feet
The weather was poor in the morning, but the local wildlife kept us entertained until eventually it seemed that a walk was on the cards. Our older retriever Meg is now 13 and can’t manage longer walks and we always feel a sense of guilt when we leave her at home to go fellwalking. This was a chance to make amends by taking her on a short walk to Crummock Water
We parked at Park Bridge near Loweswater (there’s only space for two cars at most) and walked past Flass Wood under the foot of Mellbreak and down to the west shore of Crummock Water. The sight of the lake gave old Meg a new lease of life and she was bounding around like a puppy as we threw sticks into the water for her to retrieve
We walked along the shore for a short distance and at the pumphouse headed away from the lake along the banks of Park Beck, and back to the car
It was only a short outing but we’d all enjoyed it – especially Meg
