Area: North Western Lake District
Date of walk: 15th November 2013
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 7.5 miles
Ascent: 400 feet
We’ve walked the fells around Newlands Valley many times before, but have never walked along the valley itself. A grey day with cloud obscuring the higher fells gave us the opportunity to put this right – about time, as the valley is stunningly beautiful throughout its length
We parked in the National Trust car park at Braithwaite Common and walked out of the village, leaving the road to join the path to Braithwaite Lodge. We’ve been up this path several times before when climbing Barrow, but on this occasion our path took us along the flanks of the fell with lovely views across the valley
Eventually we arrived at Little Town, not far from the valley head, and turned back to walk along the other side of Newlands. Our path ran along the bank of Newlands Beck for much of the way, until we arrived back in Braithwaite
It was one of those grey days that make the photos seems a little dull but the walk itself was beautiful and we enjoyed it every step of the way
