Route: Mill Gill Force from Askrigg
Area: Yorkshire Dales
Date of walk: 4th January 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 4.0 miles
Ascent: 600 feet
We parked in the attractive village of Askrigg and soon joined the bank of Mill Gill. After all the recent rain, Mill Gill Force was in fine form and made a spectacular sight
We then carried on uphill to Whitfield Gill Force. This was an anti climax as we could only glimpse the falls through the trees and the view from the path was a poor one. It was very wet and slippery and I wasn’t going off piste in these conditions, so I had to be satisfied with the view on offer, poor though it was
The way back to Askrigg was very straightforward, most of it being along Low Straights Lane. The weather was overcast and dull throughout, but this didn’t spoil the view of Mill Gill Force, the undoubted highlight of this walk
