Route: The Loweswater Show 2018
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 2nd September 2018
Walkers: Andrew, Gilly, Denise and Phil
Weather: very mixed, with light rain and sunny spells
The Loweswater Show was established in 1870 and is a classic agricultural show which has changed little over the years. Today’s show would be the 142nd and I expect that the programme of events for the 1st was similar to today’s. There’s a real feeling of countryside tradition, history and continuity about it.
We first came here over 20 years ago – it’s always a very enjoyable day out and one that’s worth recording in my walking diary, even though it doesn’t involve a proper walk. In recent years the show has been held opposite New House Farm in Lorton Vale
The photos which follow are only intended to convey the nature and spirit of the event – there are numerous events and activities in addition to those depicted, including fell races, Cumberland wrestling, hound trails, working dog classes, carriage driving and much else besides…
