Route: A short stroll to Loweswater
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 2nd October 2015
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 2.4 miles
Ascent: 250 feet
Weather: Sunny but very hazy
There was only time for a short local walk today, and with the fells being shrouded in thick haze I couldn’t think of a better venue than Loweswater
I parked in one of the roadside parking spaces by the phone box and followed the path through the fields to Hudson Place. I then followed the path down to the head of Loweswater (the lake is unique in the district, being the only one to drain out towards the fells rather than away from them)
I followed the path into Holme Wood, owned and managed by the National Trust. When I arrived at the boathouse I returned through the wood and then retraced my steps back to the start
It was only a short walk, nothing to set the pulses racing, but the scenery was beautiful every step of the way. It was a sad day though as the final photo will show, and my thoughts were with our old retriever Meg who has walked this path many times before but will never do so again
