Route: Circuit of Loweswater
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 26th April 2015
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 3.9 miles
Weather: Perfect
I awoke to a glorious morning and made the short drive down to Loweswater, parking in the small National Trust car park at Maggie’s Bridge. It was just after 7am when I set off down the track to Watergate Farm. A cuckoo was calling, a woodpecker was knocking on wood, baby lambs were gambolling and a heron flew off as I walked down to the shore of Loweswater
I followed the lovely path through Holme Wood and walked to the end of the lake and then past Hudson Place. The only small drawback to this route (in common with circuits of nearby Buttermere and Crummock Water) is that it involves a section of road walking. However it’s a quiet road – I only saw 2 or 3 cars – and the scenery is beautiful
Just after Highcross, I turned off the road to walk back along the narrow lane to Maggie’s Bridge. Thanks to the early start I didn’t see anyone else along the way – what a great start to the day
