Route: Circuit of Loweswater
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 14th July 2017
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 4.1 miles
Ascent: 300 feet
Weather: Cloudy but bright
We parked in the small National Trust car park at Maggie’s Bridge, which is free but only has room for about 6-8 cars, and set off down the track to Watergate Farm by the head of Loweswater. There are lovely views of the surrounding Loweswater fells along this section of the walk
We then followed the path through Holme Wood, owned and well managed by the National Trust. When we arrived at the boathouse we continued along the track, although there is an alternative lakeshore route at this point. After leaving the wood and passing by Hudson Place we walked across the foot of Loweswater
The return leg is part footpath and part road, though it’s a quiet road with little traffic, and the scenery is beautiful
Just after Highcross, we turned off the road to walk back along the narrow lane to Maggie’s Bridge to complete one of our favourite circuits
