Route: A short walk in Lorton Vale
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 16th October 2014
Walkers: Andrew Gilly and David
Distance: 1.8 miles
Ascent: 300 feet
Weather: overcast with some bright spells
We only had time for a short local walk today but these days it’s as much as our older retriever Meg, aged 14, can manage. We have to leave her at home when we go on longer walks, and always do so with a pang of guilt – she looks so baleful as we set off without her. Today was a chance to make amends and take her with us
After leaving home we walked along the lane and before reaching Miller Place we turned uphill and headed up the outgang to join the lovely path which runs along the west side of Lorton Vale. This elevated path gives wonderful views across the vale and as far as Scotland on a clear day. At the end of the path we joined the gated road to Hopebeck and walked back home along the quiet lane
For anyone following this walk, the recommended starting point is the small parking space near High Swinside. It’s a great little walk which highlights the beauty of Lorton Vale
