Area: Southern Lake District
Date of walk: 5th March 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 8.2 miles
Ascent: 1,500 feet
I’d really enjoyed two recent walks circling Loughrigg Fell and Grange Fell Looking at the OS map it was apparent that Lingmoor Fell was a good candidate for the same treatment, so I plotted a course around it, knowing the the surrounding terrain would be beautiful throughout
We parked at Chapel Stile and walked along Great Langdale, savouring the fantastic views of the Langdale Pikes as we went along. We then climbed the col beside Side Pike and descended to Blea Tarn, joining a permissive path along the southern foot of Lingmoor Fell and finally back to the start through Sawrey’s Wood
Although we didn’t climb the fell, there were plenty of ups and downs, the ups amounting to around 1,500 feet – the same as the fell itself, so this was a good workout for my recently treated dodgy knee
The weather was mostly overcast but it kept dry and we agreed that it had been a really great walk
