Route: Lanthwaite Hill
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 24th September 2015
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 2.7 miles
Weather: Mostly overcast
There was only time for a short walk today and where better than nearby Lanthwaite Hill, which is easily climbed and commands superb views over Lorton Vale, Loweswater and Crummock Water
We decided on a different route from our usual one, and parked at Lanthwaite Green. From there we walked towards Grasmoor and Whiteside and after crossing Liza Beck we followed the path along Lorton Vale as far as Pickett Howe
After crossing the Buttermere Road at Pickett Howe we climbed up the slopes of Lanthwaite Hill. The weather was gradually closing in but the view was as spectcular as ever
We then walked through Lanthwaite Woods and back to the start via Lanthwaite Green Farm. Our route had taken us tantalisingly close to the shore of Crummock Water, but we didn’t have time for a visit today. Despite that omission, it was a lovely short walk
