Route: Holme Wood
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 19th October 2017
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 3.4 miles
Ascent: 100 feet
Weather: Overcast and rainy
Having enjoyed some lovely weather on my last few walks, my luck was bound to run out sooner or later, and today was that day. The skies were a uniform white as we set off from the small car park at Maggie’s Bridge near the head of Loweswater. We followed the track towards High Nook Farm and just before the farm we turned right at a ladder stile to follow a path to Watergate Farm
After passing through the farm we arrived at the head of Loweswater and entered into Holme Wood, managed by the National Trust. We followed the wide track through the wood and on reaching the bothy turned off to walk along the shore of the lake
When we reached the far end of Holme Wood we’d hoped to continue a little further along the path, but drizzle had turned into quite heavy rain so we decided to curtail the walk and turn back. We followed the main track through the wood and at Watergate Farm we branched off to the left to walk back to Maggie’s Bridge
