Route: Holme Wood Loweswater
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 18th November 2015
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 4.1 miles
Ascent: 800 feet
Weather: Mostly cloudy, very windy, some light rain
Yet more awful weather this morning – torrential rain and gale force winds – and it seemed as though our walking boots would have a rest day. After lunch though the rain finally stopped and there was time for a short local walk
Without ado we drove over to Loweswater and parked in the small National Trust car park at Maggie’s Bridge. There was an all too brief burst of sunshine as we followed the track through High Nook Farm
Just before the tarn we turned uphill along the terraced path which skirts the top of Holme Wood. We then left the path to descend into Holme Wood, which is well managed by the National Trust. After admiring Holme Force, which was on top form after all the recent rain, we walked along the shore of Loweswater back to the start
