Route: Harter Fell (Eskdale)
Area: Southern Lake District
Date of walk: 13th April 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 5.4 miles
Ascent: 1,800 feet
As the crow flies, it’s only 14 miles from our home in the north west Lake District to the start point of the walk, but it took me 1 hour 15 minutes to get there. There are lots of fells to get round, making it a very circuitous journey
My start point for today’s walk was the foot of the Hardknott Pass, a serious drive even in good conditions. The pass was closed to cars but luckily my parking place was just before the road closure
The weather was fair but as I neared the top of Harter Fell it misted up and there were no views at all. This was a real disappointment as I knew that this is a wonderful vantage point
I descended to Hardknott Fort and then back to the car. It was an interesting and enjoyable walk, but a shame that I missed out on the views from the summit
