Route: Goathland to Grosmont and back
Area: North York Moors
Date of walk: 26th February 2014
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 8.4 miles
Ascent: 900 feet
We were spending a couple of nights at Derwent View Hackness so this was a good opportunity to visit Goathland again and try a walk I’d not done before
I parked in the centre of the village and set out along the Rail Trail, which provides easy walking all the way to Grosmont. Shortly after setting off I made a short ‘out and back’ to see Thomason Foss waterfall, well worth the detour
The North York Moors Railway was not operating today, but it was still worth looking round the station when I reached Grosmont
The return route was at high level through woods and then across open countryside – a contrast to the scenery on the first half of the walk
