Route: Great Mell Fell
Area: Eastern Lake District
Date of walk: 27th August 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 2.3 miles
Ascent: 800 feet
I parked in the layby near Brownrigg Farm and walked up the lane along the lower flanks of the fell
A path turns off the lane heading uphill and it’s an easy 30 minute climb to the top. The fell lacks the attributes of a true mountain – it’s more of a big hill, but it has the advantage of being isolated from neighbouring fells, so commands good views in all directions
Having taken in the views, I started back down via a different path which soon linked up with ascent path, and it was a simple case of retracing my steps back to the layby
It had been a very pleasant hour’s diversion
