Route: Goathland to Levisham
Area: North York Moors
Date of walk: 2nd September 2013
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 9.1 miles
Ascent: 800 feet
We parked at Levisham railway station, about half a mile out of the attractive and unspoilt village, and bought 2 tickets to Goathland on the North York Moors Railway
It’s sometimes pot luck as to whether the train will be diesel or steam – ours was diesel – but no matter, the 40 minute journey was a joy, and all too soon it was time to disembark at Goathland
We walked through the village and out onto open moorland, heading back south in the direction of Levisham. There was no-one else around and it was exhilarating to be trekking across the heather with huge views in all directions
After leaving the moorland, we descended into woodland and followed narrow paths and well made tracks back to Levisham station, arriving back in time to enjoy lunch at the Horseshoe Inn
It had been another 5 star walk
