The Freedom Festival celebrates through artistic and cultural expression Hull’s independent spirit and historic contribution to the cause of freedom, so says the official guide. It’s a wonderful weekend event packed full of interest and entertainment provided by hundreds of talented people
There’s so much going on that it would be impossible to cover the whole event – the city is bursting with music, theatre and art of every kind
Gilly and I started the day in Queens Gardens where Nofit State were performing their circus act. Sadly it was raining but despite that the energy and enthusiasm of the performers soon had the audience jumping up and down, umbrellas in hand
Later that day, David and I returned to see and hear Ruby Turner, the main attraction as far as we were concerned and she treated us to an incredible performance. But as soon as the music stopped the rain started, quite heavily, and after becoming drenched we very reluctantly decided to call it a day. What a shame, not just for us but for tens of thousands of visitors and performers – let’s hope that the weather improves for the final day tomorrow
