Route: Far Ings National Nature Reserve
Area: North Lincolnshire
Date of walk: 21st July 2014
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 3.5 miles
Weather: sunny and warm
On my way to the start of yesterday’s walk I’d driven past the sign to Far Ings. Inspired by the wonderful wildlife sightings I’d enjoyed on that occasion, I decided to return to the area and pay a visit to the nature reserve at Far Ings which is managed by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust
The Visitor Centre was closed today as a result of a storm surge in December 2013 but repair work is well underway and it’s due to re-open next month
I parked in the alternative car park by Ness End Farm and spent a happy two or three hours wandering round the site and visiting some of the well maintained hides that are provided by the Trust
There was plenty of birdlife to see, and I was thrilled to see a kingfisher and a marsh harrier both of which were out of sight before I could lay hands on the camera. Dragonflies and butterflies were to be seen everywhere
I walked about 3.5 miles and still didn’t manage to explore the whole reserve. For some suggested trails proposed by the Trust, click here. I do recommend a visit – it’s a wonderful place
