Exbury Gardens is one of the finest woodland gardens in the country, and home to a huge collection of rhododendrons and azaleas. I knew that I’d be too late in the season to see these in flower, but the gardens have much more to offer throughout the year, and the surroundings are idyllic
I wandered around for two or three hours but didn’t manage to see every part of the garden – it’s enormous, and beautifully laid out and planted. Extra interest is provided by lovely walks through meadow land down to the bank of the River Beaulieu
It’s a very special place and well worth a visit
