Route: Crummock Water Circular
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 17th October 2014
Walkers: Andrew Gilly and David
Distance: 11.8 miles
Ascent: 900 feet
Weather: overcast with some bright spells and some light showers
We parked in the National Trust car park at Scalehill Bridge and set off down the wide track to the foot of Crummock Water. The view south along the lake was as lovely as ever
We then made our way round the shore in a clockwise direction, arriving in Buttermere at lunchtime. The urge to call in to the Walkers Bar at the Bridge Hotel was irresistible and, after refuelling there (highly recommended by the way), we continued on our journey around the lake
The path along the western shore was juicy in parts, a good test for my new walking boots. After passing by the Pump House and the Fish Ladder at the foot of the lake we completed the circuit and rejoined the track through Lanthwaite Wood back to the car
The scenery was beautiful throughout the whole walk and we only saw a handful of people along the way
