Route: Crummock Water from Church Bridge
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 15th December 2015
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 2.9 miles
Ascent: 400 feet
Weather: Overcast and dull
The plan today was to walk in the Newlands Valley but when I arrived at the foot of Newlands Pass the road was closed, no doubt having been damaged in the recent floods. Rather than making a lengthy diversion I decided on a short local walk instead
I parked at Church Bridge near the famous Kirkstile Inn. I walked away from the pub in the direction of Mellbreak, and then across the foot of the fell above weather worn Flass Wood which was full of fallen trees and branches as usual. The path above Highpark then took me down to the shore of Crummock Water
The level of the lake was by now back to normal following the floods – the shoreline path would have been submerged a week or so ago. I followed the path as far as the Pump House before heading away from the lake to follow the course of Park Beck, which was my companion for the remainder of the walk
For anyone following this route, a visit to the Kirkstile at the end is a must
