Route: Castlerigg Stone Circle
Area: Central Lake District
Date of walk: 9th December 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 9.4 miles
Ascent: 700 feet
Another cloudy day meant another low level walk, but no matter as I decided to pay a long overdue visit to the Castlerigg Stone Circle, one of the earliest British circles, built about 3,000 BC
This gave me a good excuse to plan a walk that included St John’s in The Vale, a beautiful and unfrequented valley
I parked by the busy A591 and headed north in the direction of Keswick. My visit to the Circle involved a small diversion, but it was worth it. Having soaked up the atmosphere of the place, I headed back south into St John’s in the Vale, following the course of St John’s Beck for most of the way
This completed a circuit of High Rigg, which we’d climbed earlier this year. Despite the overcast conditions it had been a great walk
