Route: Brockenhurst Circular
Area: New Forest, Hampshire
Date of walk: 18th June 2014
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 7.4 miles
Weather: overcast but warm
We were staying at The Pig Hotel – highly recommended – just outside Brockenhurst in the heart of the New Forest (anyone not staying there is recommended to start the walk from Brockenhurst station). The village is one of the most attractive in the New Forest National Park. The area is home to ponies, deer, donkeys and cows – all of which are known to roam the main street
Gilly and I walked to the station, where Gilly caught a train to visit her parents – I would catch up with them all later. The path out of the village took me past Brockenhurst Park and then into Roydon Woods Nature reserve, where I had a close encounter with a fox. The last section of the walk was along the bank of Lymington River
There was a good variety of countryside on this walk, including woodland, parkland, heathland and grassland and it was beautiful throughout – a great walk for anyone who wants to see typical New Forest scenery
