Following our walking holiday in the Pyrenees we were travelling home from Barcelona airport and as luck would have it the flight would not leave until early evening. Allowing for the journey from the Pyrenees to Barcelona this would give us 3 hours or so to enjoy a short stroll around the city
Such a time frame would only allow us to scrape the surface – we’ve been here before and are well aware that it’s a huge city with many attractions and we couldn’t possibly do it justice today
After leaving our bags at the airport we caught the bus to the Plaça de Catalunya and then walked down bustling La Rambla to the port area. We then visited the nearby Gothic Quarter, the centre of the old city of Barcelona, and wandered around the labyrinthine streets for a while. There was just enough time left to admire the outside of the amazing Casa Batllo before catching the bus back to the airport
