This was a surprise present for Gilly’s birthday. We parked the car at King George Dock in Hull and climbed aboard the ‘Pride of Rotterdam’
The next morning we disembarked at Europort near Rotterdam and a coach took us to the centre of Amsterdam. We wandered around the city for 5 or 6 hours, taking in all the sights. It was a glorious sunny day with clear blue skies
The coach returned us to the ferry at teatime and we sailed back to Hull overnight, and were home before 9am
The day before departure - the cake. Thanks to Jill Fisher ‘the cake lady’
We left our car next to the port authority building
It could be the Caribbean!
Leaving Hull
The sun sets over the city
Next morning, the coach drops us off at the Central Station Amsterdam
The previous day, Queen Beatrix had abdicated in favour of her son, and greeted the crowds from this balcony
We went to the Amsterdam Museum - a must - though didn’t have enough time to do it justice
Many of the old buildings have interesting features such as this
Some buildings look as if they would collapse without the support of their neighbours
Many of the streets were awash with litter after last night’s street parties following the abdication of the Queen and succession by her son
The flower market, with many of the plants that you’d expect to see.....
....and some that you wouldn’t!
We stumbled upon the red light district, not my fault as Gilly had the map
Next morning we arrived back in Hull - what a great mini break it had been
