Route: Barrow and Outerside
Area: North Western Lake District
Date of walk: 25th August 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 5.5 miles
Ascent: 1,800 feet
I parked in the attractive village of Braithwaite and walked up the lane to Braithwaite Lodge, at which point the path enters onto open fellside and follows the line of the ridge up to Barrow
It was a swelteringly hot day and I was soon huffing and puffing, even though the path was not especially steep
After reaching the top of Barrow, there followed a down and up to the next summit – Outerside. Sadly the views, which are normally wonderful, were restricted by low cloud and haze
The descent back down to Braithwaite was easy, with lovely views over to Skiddaw, Keswick and Derwent Water.
Despite the hazy conditions, it had been a really enjoyable walk
