Route: Kaminaki to Kerasia coastal path
Area: North East Corfu
Date of walk: 20th June 2017
Walkers: Andrew, Gilly and James
Distance: 3.8 miles
Ascent: 600 feet
Weather: Sunny and very hot
On the first day of our walking holiday in Corfu we decided to explore the coast near our rented villa. We drove south along the coast and parked in the attractive little village of Kaminaki, where the pebbly beach front is lined with tavernas
We followed a path to the next beach at Nissaki bay, the only place along the route with a big (and rather unattractive) hotel. After walking past the hotel, peace and tranquility were restored as we followed a succession of paths and tracks leading past several quiet coves. The views were breathtaking throughout and there were numerous bathing and dining opportunities which, if taken, would make it hard to finish the walk in a single day
The far point of the walk was Kerasia, and this is where we stopped for refreshments. Our villa lay further north along the coast and we decided to walk back – another 3 miles or so. I’ve not shown that on the route map as this section was along the roadside and although there were some good views it was rather a trudge in the sweltering heat
Anyone following this highly recommended route is best advised to retrace their steps on reaching Kerasia, or to take a taxi back to the start
Today’s walk was a fantastic introduction to what is a new area for us, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store
