Route: Around Hornsea

I parked near St Nicholas Church in Hornsea, and walked out of the town following the B1244. There were glimpses of Hornsea Mere (Yorkshire’s largest fresh water lake) as I went along
After a while I turned off to follow a path through farmland, and then entered into the Wassand Estate and walked through the attractive parkland
I made my way through more fields to Goxhill, and then back to Hornsea along the Trans Pennine Trail. Although I’d made a circuit of Hornsea Mere, I’d hardly seen it. There are very few points of access and much of it is surrounded by woodland and reed beds. I made a short detour to rectify this, and was rewarded with a wonderful view over the lake from its eastern end, where there’s a cafe and boating facilities
