Route: Hackness

We were staying at Derwent View in Hackness and from there we walked along the footpath towards the village hall. Anyone not staying at the cottage could start the walk from the village hall, which is situated at the junction of the road from Forge Valley into Hackness
After passing by Mill Farm we left the road to follow a public footpath sign leading us uphill through a field and then along the edge of Walker Flat Wood. There are lovely views back over Hackness and the surrounding countryside from the path and even better views later on when it passes above Hackness Hall and St Peter’s Church. Unfortunately the weather was very dull and insipid today and these weren’t shown off at their best
After walking past the hall we descended to the roadside and walked back into the village, calling in to St Peter’s Church along the way
This is a short and undemanding walk, but it provides a good introduction to the charms of this unspoilt little village

Hackness is split into two halves - this is the other half, with St Peter’s church and the village school
The path takes us past the Hall

We descend to the road below
We follow the quiet road back into Hackness
Grade II listed Dry Bridge, which connects 2 parts of the gardens of Hackness Hall
A short detour into the grounds of St Peter’s Church
We pay our respects to Auntie Marjorie, who lived in and loved Hackness
We follow the road, although this track would be a good alternative
We arrive back in the other half of Hackness
Journey’s end at Derwent View
The piece of cod which passeth all understanding - tea at nearby Walkers, where small means large and large means whale-sized
