Route: Loweswater and Holme Wood
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 27th October 2016
Walkers: Andrew, Gilly, Nich and Patricia
Distance: 3.4 miles
Weather: Grey and overcast
We parked in the layby near the public phone box and followed a path through the fields, and then the track past Hudson Place. From here there is a good view along Loweswater, and a path leading to the foot of the lake
After entering Holme Wood, which is well managed by the National Trust, we left the lakeshore and climbed uphill in order to visit the attractive waterfall known as Holme Force
From there we walked along the high level track through the wood, spotting a deer at one point, and then descended to the head of the lake near Watergate Farm. A pleasant stroll by the lakeside completed the circuit and we then retraced our steps back to the start
It was a dull day but the lovely autumn colours in the woods more than compensated for this
