Route: Angletarn Pikes and Beda Fell
Area: Far Eastern Lake District

We parked in Patterdale and walked out of the village up to Boredale Hause. At the top of Angletarn Pikes the weather changed suddenly and there was a hailstorm followed by snow. The temperature had been 10c in the valley but up here it went down to zero, there was a howling gale and we had to put our winter gear on – and it’s nearly May!
After leaving Angletarn Pikes we followed the long ridge heading north to Beda Fell, and saw a few deer along the way. There were lovely views of Ullswater along this section
The path then took us round the foot of Place Fell and back to Patterdale along the shore of Ullswater. This is one of our favourite parts of the Lake District. The scenery was beautiful throughout and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this walk

We turn off the Patterdale road to join the lane to Grisedale (there is a car park along the lane, current fee £5, but don't park on the lane itself)
We leave the lane here to join the path leading to Thornhow End, which we need to surmount in order to gain the ridge to Birks
