Route: Crummock Water from Church Bridge
Area: Western Lake District
Date of walk: 19th June 2015
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 3.0 miles
Weather: Dull and overcast, some light rain
Another late start meant there was only time for a short local walk today but no matter as I could never tire of walking in the Loweswater area
I parked in the small car park at Church Bridge near the famous Kirkstile Inn and walked away from the Inn past Kirkgate Farm. I carried on past the farm and left the track near the foot of Mellbreak, walking above Flass Wood. The wood, and its neighbour Green Wood, are well stocked with oak trees but they always seem to look untidy – there are fallen branches and skeletons of trees all over the place, no doubt on account of ferocious winds blowing along Crummock Water
I descended to the shore of the lake and followed the lakeside path for a while before heading inland towards Muncaster House and from there back to the start, heroically resisting the urge to pop into the Kirkstile for refreshments
