Route: Patterdale Circular
Area: Eastern Lake District
Date of walk: 11th February 2015
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 7.3 miles
Weather: Low hill fog, dull, cold
I parked in Patterdale and near the end of the village turned left to cross a bridge over the beck
A lovely path took me along the bottom of the fells and when I reached Hayeswater Gill I walked into the unspoilt village of Hartsop
I then headed towards Brothers Water (the lake was formerly named Broad Water but was renamed when two brothers drowned here in the 19th century). The path continued beyond the head of the lake for a while before turning towards Hartsop Hall
The hall marks the half way point of the walk, and from here I walked along the other shore of Brothers Water. A permissive path goes through woodland at the edge of the road, and when this petered out I walked back into Patterdale along the footpath by the side of the road
Sorry to say that the photos today are a bit below par, as half the landscape was missing. The surrounding fells were shrouded in very low mist, and the light was gloomy and uniform. Nevertheless, those parts of the countryside that could be seen were lovely, and it was an enjoyable walk
