Route: Lanthwaite Hill and Crummock Water
Area: North Western Lake District
Date of walk: 19th April 2014
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 3.0 miles
Weather: perfect
For the second day running it was sun and blue skies so I made an early start and parked at the National Trust car park at Scale Hill
This is a walk we’ve done many times and never tire of, there’s so much scenery packed into a small area. I made the easy climb up to the top of Lanthwaite Hill, shown as Brackenthwaite Hows on the OS map, from where there are tremendous views over Lorton Vale, Crummock Water, and plenty of fells
I then walked through the woods down the the shore of Crummock Water. There wasn’t a breath of wind and the lake looked stunning. I returned to the car park along a narrow path which follows the banks of the River Cocker. It was a wonderful short walk
