The weather didn’t look at all promising in the morning – low clouds obscured the feet of the fells as well as their heads. I’d recently enjoyed a great walk around Loughrigg Fell and taking that as my inspiration I decided to visit the valley of Borrowdale and walk round Grange Fell, another small and rugged fell set in beautiful surroundings

I parked in the village of Grange and walked into Borrowdale along the banks of the River Derwent. Having reached Rosthwaite there then followed a long climb up to the col before I descended to the lonely but lovely village of Watendlath

I followed Watendlath Beck down to the shore of Derwent Water. Following all the recent rain, the lake was flooded and I had to wade at one point to get across to the boardwalk

A short ramble along the Cumbria Way took me back into Grange. It had been a great walk in beautiful scenery throughout
