Route: Ling Fell and Sale Fell
Area: North Western Lake District
Date of walk: 17th January 2014
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 4.4 miles
Ascent: 1,200 feet
These two fells are completely separate and unconnected by a ridge, so today’s walk involved two separate ascents and descents. The easy nature of the terrain made this an easy task though
I parked at Brumston Bridge near Wythop Mill and was soon on the old Corpse Road leading up the flanks of Ling Fell. The track was at a very easy gradient and I made quick progress – it only took 30 minutes to reach the top
After descending from the fell, I walked past my parked car to begin the ascent of Sale Fell. This was another easy climb, but the views and the walk itself were spoilt by the weather – there was low cloud, drizzle and rain for much of the time. Despite that, and a spectacular and undignified slip into thick mud at the end, I’d still enjoyed the walk
